Happy Mother's Day!

Outside our kitchen window we have a nest of morning doves.
Today was the first time we saw the babies!

Sleep

In Jamaica, they call Speed Bumps "Sleeping Policemen", so in some parts of the island, there are signs that read, "Warning! Sleeping Policemen Ahead".

Ode to Mothers

Insightful view on Mothers by elementary school children...
Happy Mothers Day!

Why did God make mothers?
1. She’s the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?
1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
3. God made my Mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of?
1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men’s bones. Then they mostly use string I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other Mom?
1. We’re related.
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people’s Moms like me.

What kind of little girl was your Mom?
1. My Mom has always been my Mom and none of that other stuff.
2. I don’t know because I wasn’t there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3. They say she used to be nice.

What did Mom need to know about Dad before she married him?
1. His last name.
2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?
3. Whether he made more than $800 per year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your Mom marry your Dad?
1. My Dad makes the best spaghetti in the world and my Mom eats a lot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My grandma says that Mom didn’t have her thinking cap on.

Who’s the boss at your house?
1. Mom doesn’t want to be boss, but she has to because Dad’s such a goofball.
2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess Mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than Dad.

What’s the difference between Moms and Dad?
1. Moms work at work and work at home, and Dads just go to work at work.
2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller and stronger, but Moms have all the real power ‘cause that’s who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend’s.

What does your Mom do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don’t do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your Mom perfect?
1. On the inside she’s already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Diet. You know, her hair. I’d diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your Mom, what would it be?
1. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on her back.

Mothers

To my mom....

A MOTHER

God sought to give the sweetest thing
In His almighty power
To earth; and deeply pondering
What it should be, one hour
In fondest joy and love of heart
Outweighing every other,
He moved the gates of heaven apart
And gave to earth a mother.

A MOTHER
A Mother is one who
Understands the things
You say and do

Who always overlooks
Your faults and sees the
Best in you

A Mother is one whose
Special love inspires you
Day by day.

Who fills your heart with
Gladness in her warm
And thoughtful way

A Mother is all these things
and more - the greatest
Treasure known.

And the dearest Mother in
All of the world is the one I
Call my own.

WHAT RULES THE WORLD
They say that man is mighty;
He governs the land and sea,
He wields a mighty scepter
O'er lesser powers that be.
But a mightier power and stronger
Man from his throne has hurled,
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world."
~~ William Ross Wallace.

THE MOTHER'S DAY SONG
Once each year on Sunday
There comes such a special day,

A day to honor mothers
In a somewhat special way.

We send them gifts and flowers,
And a card that tries to say

How we appreciate our mothers
More than just in May.

Oh mother, thank you!
Thank you for giving my life to me.

Oh mother, thank you!
Thank you for mending my torn up knee.

Oh mother, thank you!
Thank you for teaching me how to pray.

Oh mother, thank you!
Thank you for helping me on my way.

But after Mother's Day is gone,
We seldome find the time

To think about our mothers,
Or to call them for a dime.

We act as though to show them love
Would constitute a crime

Oh how selfish it appears
When deeds and words don't rhyme.

Oh mother, thank you!
Thank you for giving my life to me.

Oh mother, thank you!
Thank you for mending my torn up knee.

Oh mother, thank you!
Thank you for teaching me how to pray.

Oh mother, thank you!
Thank you for helping me on my way.

We've gathered here to honor
Mothers everywhere today.

The ones who gave us everything
By knowing how to pray.

And, in this hour once a year,
We're hoping we can say

The thanks we seldom say to her,
Going on our way.

Let's thank our mothers.
Thank them on every day of the week.

Let's thank our mothers.
Thank them in deed, not in words that we speak.

Please thank your mother,
Turn to her now and smile and say,

"Oh thank you, mother,
Thank you for helping me on my way!"

"We love you and that's all we'd like to say!"
~~ Shamblin Stone, 1977

MOMS
To the sweetest mom in all the world
This is a special wish

To make this very special day
A very special treat

But when this day is passed and gone
You, Mom, will still be mom.

Still caring and still sharing
In those very special ways

To the nicest mom on earth
I say, "HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY."

Cake

Heather graduated from grad school!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!
So, Monday ngiht there was a party for her.
I decided to make a cake to bring....
but white cake with white frosting is just....boring (for a party!)
So, I dug out the food coloring and had some fun!
I think it turned out quite well:

May Day Parade

Pictures from the May Day Parade that I went to with Janet...

I finally got to meet Seven! Janet talks about him all the time....

Laurell joined us!!

In Vally Girl voices:
"Wanna kiss? Oh my gosh, you look like twins!
Do you take pictures? We love our pictures taken! Cheese!"

"Wanna paint something? I have some room on the back.
Just, please, don't paint 'kick me'! Well, I guess you could...."

These kids were AMAZING!
There were drummers, too, but I only got video...

A Disney decorated car....all over, outside and in. Pretty Cool!

For Kristina and Janet

I guess this means I'm a bad parker??

Exploding Ballons

In prep for the Roller Prom last Saturday (which I did not attend...) Joi, Janet and I went Friday night and blew up balloons, which started blowing up....

A good blower.

Another good blower.

Balloon populations waiting to.....pop?

The Balloon Family: Waiting to be Hung.

Weekend Flowers
